Tomorrow's Showhomes
Visitors to a Tomorrow's Showhome will see a living, working example of a Future-Proofed Building, and a home that contributes to the following principles:
what is a tomorrow's showhome
A Tomorrow’s showhome is an interactive, educational and enjoyable experience. You will witness a wide range of products and systems that will provide you with the foundation to build your own Future-Proof home. You will also gain knowledge on the products used and how they contribute to Future-Proof building. A Tomorrow’s Showhome features clever cut-aways through floors, walls and ceilings allowing visitors to view construction techniques in the home.
Tomorrow’s Showhomes is a creation from Construction Marketing Services (CMS) and is a joint initiative between Carters, Registered Master Builders Federation, GIB®, Pink® Batts®, James Hardie, Wattyl and Norman Ellison Carpets.
Together we are taking another step in leading an industry change from 'Cost driven construction' to 'Solution driven construction'.
why the change is important
So why is this change so important? Yesterday’s construction failures, which are now evident as we revel in the aftermath of the leaky home syndrome. The failures surrounding this are clearly identified, some of them are:
- The use of impractical products
- Lack of regular maintenance
- Poor installation
- Poor design
- Poor workmanship
- Cost driven mentality
- Shonky developers
The above shortcuts are a recipe for disaster. An industry change needs to occur to ensure that we build homes that meet the lifestyle of today but are also fit for purpose and functional for tomorrow. The renovation market will grow in importance. Because of our change in lifestyles, older homes are not functional today therefore requiring renovation work. Some of these changes are: we now desire indoor-outdoor flow, open plan living, multiple bathrooms. Our homes for yesterday were not designed with these considerations and there are thousands of homes that need Future-Proofing.
our changing lifestyle
Lifestyles are continually changing and we need to ensure that homes are designed and the products specified are functional for today and fit for purpose tomorrow, to ensure your investment in your home will be maintained for the future. So how do we know what our lifestyles of tomorrow are? This can be gauged by trends that we see today, for example we know that our children are staying at home longer due to the cost of purchasing a new home, our older generation is getting older and may not require full time care so additional accommodation may be required. What concepts of space management need to be incorporated to accommodate additional people and vehicles in a home when our sites are getting smaller? We know that power is only going to get more expensive, so how do we select products that will also meet these demands?
These issues and considerations for the lifestyle of today and tomorrow have created the demand to Future-Proof your home.
What does it mean to Future-Proof your home? Put simply, Future-Proofing means incorporating features, products and systems that seem to be cutting edge today but will be standard prerequisites in the future, ensuring homes maintain their value and are functional. We are all extremely conscious of maintaining a home, and we want homes that are safe and healthy places for families to live in. A home is generally the largest investment most people will make so it makes sense to build in as much future value as possible.
